The has likely announced the removal efforts due to the high risk associated with asbestos exposure in relation to various diseases, including one of the deadliest cancers known – mesothelioma. The structures on the site are dilapidated and collapsing.

“At the request of the local government, the EPA sent staff and federal resources to stop the potential release of asbestos,” said EPA Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck in an EPA press release. “EPA will make sure that the buildings are taken down properly and that asbestos is not spread into the community.” (more…)

asbestos warning 100x100 Asbestos critics concerned about chlor alkali industrys high usage of asbestosKnown for being the largest U.S. importer of asbestos, the chlor-alkali industry may have to rely on a new mineral if the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency  () decides to review the safety of asbestos under the new Toxic Substances Control Act ().

The chlor-alkali industry utilizes asbestos regularly for its production of chlorine and caustic soda, which, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, accounted for 90 percent of the 358 tons of asbestos imported into the U.S. last year. Thankfully, the recently reformed TSCA will be taking 10 chemicals currently allowed in the country into evaluation and many experts believe asbestos should be among them. (more…)

Taking effect mid-August, the revised Asbestos Safe Management Act will ensure that all buildings with asbestos have at least one safety supervisor at dismantling sites, unless they are more than 2,000 square meters, in which case they will need more than one. 200px asbestos warning 150x150 $500K asbestos, radon and lead abatement project scheduled for the Elbridge Central School DistrictAccording to The Citizen, a $500,000 “emergency” clean-up project was announced by the Jordan-Elbridge Central School District’s Board of Education following the discovery its schools were tainted by the presence of , radon and lead.

The re-organizational meeting, which took place in the school district’s home state of , held a vote by the board unanimously deciding to sponsor the Emergency Asbestos/Lead Abatement and Radon Mitigation Project. The abatement will take place at the district’s High School, Ramsdell Middle School, and Elbridge Elementary School. (more…)

“I believe that the movement against asbestos was led by the mob, because it was often mob-related companies that would do the asbestos removal,” Trump claimed in his 1997 book, The Art of the Comeback. “Great pressure was put on politicians, and as usual, the politicians relented. That’s why Australian Education minister recently announced that all high-risk A1 and A2-grade asbestos has now been removed from 497 educational facilities in the Victorian district. A recent audit found that 140 out of the 170 pieces of tested cement sheeting tested positive for asbestos, resulting in panic for families worried for their children’s safety.
